Ownership

I have the the ability to give my class creative freedom, and have found by doing so that they take ownership and produce better products at the same time tweeking there ideas and either showing them tricks of the trade or more creative ways to present the product.

Hi Kathleen:
I agree. Creative freedom does not mean "free-for-all" classes. I think student's appreciate being given very narrow and comprehensive directions, then, let them have at it. That's where the creative juices will begin to flow.

I do believe the teacher has to monitor the progress or else it can get out of hand. But students will take on more ownership the more they are able to put their own spin on the assignment.

Regards, Barry

As long as they are given certain parameters, creative freedom definitely will produce better results. The issues that arise are usually due to students being given little or no direction and then veering themselves very far off course.

Hi Brian:
I think there are degrees to owneship and perhaps that's what you talking about. Even just plopping down in a chair in class is a form of ownership. And the more the studnt participates, they're assuming more ownership. So, it's really a matter of degrees.

I agree ownership puts the ball in the student's court, but not all students' are ready to take ownership on a regular basis. I encourage it and also build confidence with team assignments as well.

Hi Jessica:
When students participate in their own education, they will retain the essentials more readily and be better at the craft they're learning about as well.

Regards, Barry

I believe it helps the students learn how to make better decisions.

Hi Winston:
Absoultely! wWhen a students is engaged and involved in their learning they'll retain more of the information.

Ownership is empowering. People tend to be more involved in things they have a vested interest in.

Hi Megan:
I agree. I think students will do better when they feel they are positively participating in their own education.

Hi Chris:
Assuming ownership requires a degree of accountability. I agree that it will produce better student outcomes.

Regards, Barry

I think that is a good way to conduct your class. It helps you and your students be more responsible.
