Teaching in itself can already be a challenge but being unorganized can hamper the learning and make the instructor look unprofessional and uncaring. Prepare for success!

Prof. Westling,

Part of being a good instructor is being prepared and organized before class. This demonstrates to the students that we care about their education, that our job is important. Being organized helps the day flow with ease, the students participate more willingly. This also teaches them upon graduation on the importance of being prepared and organized for the job. As a Dental Assistant it is very important to be organized, the dentist depends on us so his day runs without a problem. Having everything prepared before the patient arrives is essential.

Meri Torres

It is essential to have all materials in line and ready to go at the start of each class. This will prevent an instructor from looking as though he or she is unprepared or unorganized. Students will not be thrilled to see their instructor running out of the classroom to make copies. By not being prepared you are showing that the students themselves do not need to be prepared either, which is very un professional.

Curtis ,
Right. Cultivating respect, trust, and credibilty result, in part, from being fully ready for class every session.

Barry Westling

It is important to be prepared every day for class because there is new lesson plans being introduced almost every day and you have to be organized. If you are not ready the students will know this and not follow your lead.

Dennis,
Yes, students want to feel their instructor is ready for every class, and this conveys confidence.

Barry Westling

When the instructor is prepared for the class in advance, the students recognise that they have a person who takes charge and is organised with a defined purpose of giving the best possible presentation for the students. this should create an atmosphere that shows the students are in good hands concerning the subject matter being taught.

Heather,
Yep, we've got to "walk the talk" if our credibility is to be gain and respected.

Barry Westling

Betsy,
I believe students do look to their instructors as role models. They may not be consistent in following our lead, but that is no excuse for us not to be.

Barry Westling

The students will not take you seriously if you are disorganized. If you want to produce a skilled professional, show that you are one as well.

If the instructor isn't organized and on time how can they expect the students to be. The professor should model the behavior they wish their students to adopt.

Darlene,
Sometimes we need to have a good Plan-B. But we won't know that unless we take time to plan, organize and gather resources to ready it all for the class.

Barry Westling

It relays to the students that there is a plan. And that the teacher feels that the class is important.

Things don't always go as planned, ex. projector doesn't work to show powerpoints. If well prepared for the class, it is easier to move ahead without becoming flustered.
Organization also is the sign of a professional and both presents a role model for the students and reflects on the organization.

William,
Yes, students do appreciate knowing their instructor is ready and willing to assist them every class day, even if the students themselves are not always as prepared.

Barry Westling

Daliann,
I think this is largely true. I know for sure nothing much good can come without that needed preparedness.

Barry Westling

It is important to be organized and prepared for each class not only to make the class flow smoothly, but to also show that you care about the students education. It also shows a great deal of professionalism. The students will know if you just through a lesson together in a few min. or if you took your time to go over every part of the class that day.

If your not organized and prepared for class your students get the perception that you don't care or that the course material is irrelevant.

As an Instructor, Our organizational skills will reflect how our students receive us. If we are organized and on time, we can be an example for the students, so they know they are expected to be organized and on time. It lets them know that it's not ok for them to do it in the classroom and it will not be ok to do it in their career field. Also, students both young and old can be like children, they observe your habits and they mimic it or they will use it to their advantage to get their way, or to barely get by. Organization and preparation will result in effective teaching and effective learning.

It is very important to be organized. It sends positive signals to the students, showing them that most tasks take time to prepare. It also helps with taking control of the classroom.
