Time Trapped
I was interested in the section on not being trapped by time. Unfortunately, as I read the description of the time trapped instructor, I could identify that I am frequently a prisoner of time entrapment. Reading it from the student's perspective helped me to understand that I need to try to avoid getting trapped by time. Planning ahead definitely helps, but even this isn't always possible. Many factors can interfere with staying on top of preparation. I realize, though, that I need to keep working on not getting time trapped
Hi Debra:
Planning and working smarter are two ways to approach our limits of time. Plan for what we think will happen, plan for what might happen, plan for when things don't go as we thought, plan for needing extra time.
Working smarter is preparing ahead for more time consuming aspects of class preparation, knowing what resources are available, where to get them, where are extras if we can't locate them (overheads, LCD, computer labs, copy machine, copy paper, extra copy paper, etc).
Also, who are the "can get it done" people, the folks who you can call or contact to get a problem fixed or situation resolved quickly. Develop a good relationship with these folks to limit the amount of wasted time. Also, have a good back up plan - some simple, requires little preparation, and be implemmented on short notice.
These are a few ideas to think about. I'm sure there are 100's more.
Regards, Barry
