Field Trips and/or Guest Speakers for Computer Class

I love field trips and guest speakers. I have had a problem in the past because I teach a college level computer aided drafting course which is all on the computer and has a lot of lab time. All that said, I'm curious as to a way to incorporate a field trip or guest speaker into a class like this, especially a field trip. Any thoughts?

Hi Zafar:
What you're descrbing here is that these tools offer a fresh perspective to the student, which may help to renew their interest in the topic at hand.

Guest Speakers from different settings especially I have seen former successful graduates are more inspiring for the students. When students hear their success stories their endeavor, hard work lead them to succeed. And field trips are very helpful and makes them excited that how career skills are be applied.

Kevin:
Some experts can get way off base or too deep. Keeping it related to the job is great. Recent grads are great for coming back to share because they're still enthusiastic, motivated and excited about their new employment.

Field trips are very good ways of showing your stuadents how life will or would be in the career field that your instructing. I would just recommend using examples and trips that your students can really relate to and that would be beneficial.

Hi David:
I think whenever a teacher can bring the real world of work to the students, that'lll help bridge the gap between school and work. So, I suggest selecting some topic that studenyts are goinbg to see and use a lot in the career area, and try to select a good guest speaker or field trip that emphasizes that topic specifically.

Anything you do in class can theoretically be accomplished with a guest speaker or field trip. May just be thoughtful and creative.
