Organization.....

This is a must to attain respect and trust with your class. If they feel you are ready to teach then they in essence will show you that they are ready to learn.

Hi Angela:
Another thing about disorganization is that it may send the wrong kind of message to the student - something like "I don't care about your learning".

Regards, Barry

I agree, it's important to be organized for all the reasons mentioned.
Any one have anything concrete to offer in terms of how a chronically unorganized soul actually gets organized??
No platitudes and niceities ("just commit yourself to it"), please.

Hi Pamela:
Good point - when we are disorganized it can add a level of unnecessary stress to the instructor, that may even infect the learning environment.

Hi Kathleen:
You are saliently articulating the message it sends to the student if the instructor is disorganized. A similar consideration might be what kind of long term impact does it create when the instructor is constantly disorganized?

Regards, Barry

Indeed, organization gives a positive impression to the students. Disorganization will lead them to the directors office complaining of their learning environment.

Hi Jeff:
Triple C's: Control, confidence, and competence. Students will pay attention when these three elements are in place.

Regards, Barry

Students want their instructor to be a role model for their introduction to the industry you are teaching them and they WANT to follow your lead so being organized is paramount. By showing them that you have things under control and that you are running the show they will be more likely to follow where you are leading.

I agree. I have to be orgznized or I feel scattered. The students need to see that you expect the same of them. Being organized also shows the students that they can trust you and you are well prepared.

Hi Dione:
I think usually this is true. Want to learn requires a commitment and desire; preparing to teach requires competence, ability, and a desire to facilitate student learning. At it's best, there's a natural match of willing and able from both teacher and student.

Regards, Barry

I agree with you, Most students will want to imitate the organization and preparedness for class of the instructor. ie.If my instructor is ready than I better be ready. If my instructor is disorganized and not ready, why should I be.
