Organization of material by categories surely streamlines learning (or memorization of items in some applications) for more efficient recall, in my humble opinion. Not even as a handout, but also the use of colored markers on a white board is helpful, especially if you plan on building upon info as a course progresses. ID the basic bottom-line rules in regular black marker, exceptions to the rules in another color, specific applications in a third color, and shortcuts in the brighest color. As topics are discussed or new info is intro'd throughout the course, the color of the notation on the board helps to mentally position the item within its area of relevance and application.
Hi Ivette:
Color attracts; attracts attention, focus, emphasis, and is aslo most helpful in organizing material.

Hi Rosamond:
Much of what is involved in the learning process takes organization of material. Colored files, notepaper, catecorized resources, all these help the student get to needed information faster, and reinforces the information that's contained within the the material. This is a good example of the use of senses (sight and color) to improve learning.

I also strongly agree that color handouts help students to retain information.
