Poor behavior is always a bummer. However, field trips might also give the student a different perspective, and even allow them the chance to ask questions of someone working in a field they may chose to go into as well.

I don't trust the behaviour of students on field trips. I think of all the bad things that they might do and have no desire to leave the classroom. Whatever benefits a field trip might have are overshadowed by poor student behaviour.

When you take your class on a field trip, they see the field that they are working for come to life. When I take my class to a County Jail, or pprison, they see how life is. This is not in the text books. I had one student state that his life dream is to work in a prison. After the field trip this student went and changed his course of study. He stated that he could not work in work in a prison, he said that he felt very different about prison life after the field trip. This student thanked me for the field tripand said that if he didn't see the inside of the lockup, his education money would have been wasted.
