Insstructor Personality

It is important to know your weakness it help you on teaching and managing your class.

Sandy,
Instructors need to be able to receive feedback from students, both stronger and weaker areas identified. Only through commitment and willingness to change will improvement occur.

A great resource for insights into an instructors weaknesses is student evaluations. This can be so beneficial and can help an instructor to identify where there strengths are and what areas they could improve; which will ultimately be beneficial for our students.

I agree Kimberly. I am a Gen Ed English teacher, and it drives me crazy when my fellow instructors use improper English in the classroom and when conversing with individual students and colleagues. Our students are mostly low-income minority students, and it's difficult to encourage them to speak in the professional vernacular when their teachers are not. Any time someone (not me in this case) has said something to one such instructor, the common response is "Yeah, I'm not that great at English" or something similar.

Also, as seen in some of the people I've worked with, once you realize you have a weakness, you shouldn't highlight that weakness and tell the students "I'm this way so that's just how things are going to be." I find that to be inappropriate and feel that the instructors need to learn as they are going along just as much as the students. It's just different lessons being learned.
