having more than one teaching style

I felt the course want us to pick the one teaching style that fit us. I didn't feel like I fit anyone style but a bit of several. Anyone else feel that way?

Shea,
Variety and creativity always make classes more interesting and therefore, beneficial for students.

I think that style is very effective. We have to be versatile in our teaching methods. Our student are not the same from day to day and sometimes we need to be able to adapt.

Hi Rita,
Being understanding and tolerant of students involved with the early phases of a new topic can be frustrating for teachers, especially when students are experiencing difficulty or are requiring more time than expected. I think one approach is to keep expectations clear, which will provide for gentle "pushing" students to work harder to understand, while not coming off as inpatient and uncaring.

No!..I found me for sure..it was the DRILL SEAGEANT! as much as I hae to admit it.=-)Sometimes I am that way even in life, so I have to be careful and remember they are student and that they will make mistakes. I"m practicing and studying myself!!!...=-)

Hi Kelly,
I guess style can be defined different ways. I am the same individual all the time. But the activities I choose for a given class will vary. My approach to learning, openess, personality, and interest in learning outcomes will always remain the same.

I Change my teaching style in order to adapt to the material I am teaching. I cannot teach a computer class the same way I teach an A&P class.

Hi Daniel:
It does take a certain amount of courage (boldness), but if one is willing to try (and risk falling flat or succeeding), the benefits to students will be great!

I think an understanding of personalities helps teaching styles and the ability to try other techiniques

Hi Lori:
I don't think choosing one style is really the intent of the course.

In fact, personally I believe we are all a culmination of many factors such as past experieces, upbringing, customs, education, work experiences, and a whole bunch of other diverse characteristics that make us all unique. Bringing the uniquenesses into the classroom in a positive, upbeat manmer, resulting in improved student learning can be the outcome when competent and confident teachers are at the helm.
