Being organized and have materials ready for the students.
Use colored paper for handaouts if possible because color draws the eye of the receiver and considered as visual learning to the students.
Marlene,
Color does add a dimension to handouts. Of course the main thing is getting all the needed resources, handouts, copies, and related materials readied before class so that there might be time for questions, explanations, or even just chatting with students as the arrive for class. That readiness conveys a strong message to the students "I'm friendly and approachable, but I'm here for business".
