Organization is "Key"
I have certain expectations of my students, such as arriving on time, remaining until the end of the class period, being organized, preparred and ready to learn something new every day. How can I expect this of them if I do not set the standard which is why I make it a rule within our department to always be 3-5 days ahead of schedule, organized and preparred for the future start of a class.
Lisa,
You're right, a well organized class sets the stage for "this is buisiness" and "I'm ready to go". Having all resources and materials readied also helps the teacher conduct a smooth, seamless class that helps keep students focused and engaged.

I too agree that organization is key. If your students see that you are not organized; it could give the perception that you aren't knowledgable in your field. We should model the things that we expect from our students.
Heather,
Yes - we can be role models for success, or teachers of bad habits. Of course we want the former, and simply takes a mind set and commitment to doing what we're paid to do. And being prepared, ready for our students, and avialable and acessible is one important component of conying an impression for students to follow.
