Field Trips for General Education Courses
I teach English and I was trying to think of a kind of field trip that might be applicable to my students. My classes are considered general education courses, so I teach a variety of disciplines. A colleague takes her students to a local art museum and then it becomes a writing project. Any other suggestions?
Adrienne,
A lot depends on the type of class you teach and what you want emphasized. That aside, arrangements with a local public library or refereence librarian might be interesting. Any local authors would surely be flattered to speak about their works, their styles, their approach to writing. The editor of of the local paper might make an interesting speaker, whereas a fun field trip might be touring the production process (from story to print). Creative minds can conjure up all sorts of possibilities.
