I need real life examples to motivate my class. I think we are doing a disservice to not give our all.

Yes, real life stories, past work situations, and memorable or significant circumstances can be very meaningful and motivational. Students like stories and they tend to remember information from them. Also, these examples seem to nearly always capture attention and help refocus students.
