Going on field trips has greatly helped with motivating and retention!

I think many field trips can be very exciting, even motivating, to the point where some students become inspired to really begin to buckle down, take class more seriously, and strive to do their best moving forward. That's a great activity when those kind of results occur!

Sometimes students will see something that really attracts them when they are visiting on a field trip. And it is possible they might see something unpleasnat as well. That has only happend to me once, and I tried to turn that around, asking what they didn't like and why. It gave me an opportunity to explain things a little more thoroughly.

I think you are also showing students what they will be up against. It also helps them to study and prepare for the up coming challenges.

Of course we have to follow our institutional guidelines. In my experience`students have always benefited a lot from these activities.

Not sure if my employer would allow this option. I do however see how this could be very valuable to a student. It would encourage them if they were able to see what kind of environment they would be working in.

Great. Students will see and experience many things in field trips that couldn't be realistically duplicated in the classroom or lab setting.

Good stuff. I've found students really get motivated with field trips. They break up the routine and offer a view of the workplace not easy to duplicate in the classroom or lab.
