Field Trips

How can you keep the excitement of the trip engage in the purpose of the trip without losing the students attention?

Wayne,
Good ideas to keep students engaged, anticipating, and informed. Students need to know there is a purpose in these activities.

Ricardo,
Sometimes I'll have students write out a couple of questions they want to be sure are answered, so that they are not just passively watching and listening, but really participating by getting their questions answered. Also, debriefing and discussing the event afterwards or the next class day can help memorialize the experience.

Prep. Have them plan the trip, map it out. Set them up for the trip with interesting tid-bits regarding the location they are to visit. Provide some interesting stories, old photos, and news article about the location. Give them just enough information to peak their curiosity so they can't wait to get to the final destination.
