field trips for night classes
What ideas can you share for those of us who teach night classes that would like to include field trips in our course content?

What I found about "after 5 pm" tours is the staff are often very friendly and willing to spend more time and share more information.

This is a hard one that I have run into. Sometimes you can do a class trip to different departments of a hospital. The only thing that I ran into was that it had to be done before 8pm.

Perhaps a guest speaker could be coordinated to supplement your video tours (which are probably very interesting too). Night classes present challenges that are different from day classes. If your school wants to have a policy it should be willing to recognize the uniquenesses that you have to deal with.

I have the same problem and the school is close to mandating this for all classes. So far, the only thing that works for my night classes are video tours of technology in action.

This can be done, depends on the class. It may be that the students themselves have ideas or know of interesting sites that'd make for a good experience. Alternatively, a "pretend" site visit can make for a good substitute for an in-class activity.
