In my classes it is imperative that students do hands on learning. Repeating their skills over & over serves to instill confidence in their ability.

Hi Bernie:
Great. Most people do well with directed hands on practice. They get instant feedback, and the act of repetition is amazing at reinforcing long term memory.

Most of the classes I teach are performance oriented so hands on is imperative. I give my students as much hands on practice time as possible before they are graded on their ability.

Hi Stan:
The tactile experience (touch and feel) can complement the cognitive (think and visualize). All senses work towards better retention of information - more senses involved leads to better retention.

I agree. Pass around parts while learning and applying in the lab works well.

Hi Charles:
I think handling demonstration parts helps reinforce the points an instructor makes. Good idea.

I have a lot of pass around parts in my class room.
I hand them out as my lesson is being presented.
These keeps most types of learners engaged in the lesson.

Hi John:
Great. Hands on is always more interesting (and useful?) for students. Your PPT review is a great idea.
