the visual effect

just like anything those days to much of a good thing can also have a negative effect.
in order to be effectif, you must balance the use of the board, power pts.,slides and lecture to redirect the focus and attention as you go.
those power pts have to be simple, visual and easy to read for the eyes and the mind and should be use to support lectures content.

Hi John:
See-say-do activities are a good approach to planning anddelivering a lesson in a systematic way. Students benefit by the repetitive nature of the process. I think repitition, in wahtever form we can deliver it is a great learning strategy.

Regards, Barry

As much as possible, a teacher needs to have the students cycle through the see-say-do modalities during a lesson.

Hi Bruce:
You're right, providing only fixed PPT delivery without mixing it up with other activities is bound to lose some students. If the information is good, that's a great opportunity to enhance by alternative presentation or hands on activities.

Regards, Barry

The power point I have learned is best effective if done with hand outs and demos so all learning type will have a chance to learn and ask questions during that time.If you only approach with one learning type you will loose the rest.

Hi Kimberly:
Good comments - Barry

I agree, Thelma. I like using powerpoint slides. What I do is I add in questions into the slides in order to promote active participation. I also add in clip art as a visual aid. Utilizing the humorous clip art pictures really keeps them laughing and enjoying the powerpoint. They love it! I also ask for volunteers to read. Having them to participate really keeps their attention focused on the lesson.

I agree Lauren, Too much of a good thing can be negative, for example if the instructor spends too much time on demonstration, the student will rely more on thsi technique and the students development will suffer. Good Job

Hi Thelma:
I agree. Just because the information is there (on the PPT) doesn't necessarily translate to effective learning and information retention.

Regards, Barry

I agree that too much of anything is good. Some people tend to use a power point for everything. I especially think one should be careful in using powerpoints prepared by a textbook company.

We shouldn't just flash the powerpoint on the screen for the students to read. It shouldn't be a way for a teacher to be lazy.

Hi Laurent:
You're right - a good balannce of media provides both variety and interest by students. Students seem to learn when their minds are continuosly stimulated. Visual presentation goes a long ways to achieving that.
