Power Point Pictures

Should there be a limit on the number of demonstration pictures in a text power point presention?

Hi Tamara:
I think good PPT's can be of any length and contain whatever the instructor feels is important. But we don't want to waste the students time either.

PPT can be apowerful way to present ideas - colorful, imaginative, creative - and all this takes time, thought, preparation, planning, and effort. A good lecture session with too much information can be a distraction rather a learning experience. That's why I think when PPT is used along with other media, ideas are conveyed and remembered better.

should that limit meet the amount of the limit of ideas also placed?

Hi Jessica:
Pictures do convey a lot more than words. Anatomy is one of the better examples I think PPT is extremely useful for augumenting lescture or discussions.

I like a lot of pictures in my PPt presentations. I am in the medical field, so a lot of what I am teaching is better taught with pictures or diagrams to help connect what I am saying to that picture.

Hi Brian:
I think PPT is a tool, and as such, it should be used for a specific purpose - no more no less. Pictures are one of the more useful features PPT provides because they can supplement material found in the textbooks, or illustrate some ideas that are difficult to duplicate by other methods. But too much reliance on one media form can tend to be boring, uninteresting, distracting - needless to say, less than instructional. Like seasoning in a meal, a little goes a long way.
