Objectives in the Classroom

Objectives on the board helps to guide each student throughout the class session.

Hi Brenda:
Another thing putting these on the board is that it gives the instructor the chance to review the items at the end of the learning session.

Hi Jeannie:
That sounds like an effective technique. Something you could also do (an maybe already do) is to review those objectives at the end of the class session as a form of review.

Hi Barry:
Everyone should practice putting objectives on the board at the beginning of class, it's the road map to where you are going with your lesson. My Pastor always says if you don't have an agenda before attedning a meeting you will be there all day and get nothing accomplished.

Hi Lenore:
This is a great practice. And, by setting up expectations in the beggining can avoid confusion or misunderstandings about class grades.

Hello, I write daily objectives on the board every day for each hour so the students stay on task.

I state class objectives in terms of what I want the students to accomplish during the class period. The students in turn gain security in what is going to happen step by step in the lesson, when to bring up individual concerns, review, placement of test/quiz in the lesson, etc. This also signals introduction of new material and if there are going to be activities with the lesson.

Hi Diane:
Objectve surely should be clearly stated. Also, all roads lead to the objective.

If a teacher is spending too much time on matters that fdon't directly realte to course objectives and student outcomes, they probably are a little off track.

Testing and assessing becomes more difficult as well, if the objectives have not been met.
