Teaching media

I like all the pointers on the different medias we can use in a classroom. I am especially prone to the white board. I always make sure I have different colored pens to write, highlight, draw or emphasize any particular subject matter.
One corner will be used for writing:
Subject of the Day
Date
Timeline
The rest of the board will be used during my lecture, to emphasize important topics and also to help out in student spelling, etc.
I only write the bullets of what I will be lecturing on, while the class takes notes on what I teach.
The white board allows me to draw pictures and illustrations as well.
I think a mixture of media is also key to keeping the attention of the students.

Hi Bee:
Whiteboard is kind of a universal class organizer. It can be used to supplement PPT, give directions for assignments, explain concepts or terms, or assit with facilitating discussion and lecture. Even poor artistict talent can be effective with the white board.

Hi Carl:
True, white board material has to be readble. I think just like PPT's, whiteboard notes are usually best when it's just a key word or phrase that induces discussion.

Sometimes I'll use "mindmaps". This is like a keyword with lots of subcategories linked together by a line related to a previous thought. Usually this is good for taking notes, but works on the whiteboard as well.

Great techniques, bkt. White boards are great as long as the penmanship allows the information to be readable.
