Power point

It seems like three to four topics per slide is alot. Just my opinion.

Hi Brian:
Most guidelines that exist for power-point or similar presentation tools describe what you do - keep it clear on each slide, don't cram too much information or make it difficult to see and absorb.

Hi Michael:
No, you're correct. Most presentation guidelines that exist today recommend LESS information per slide. More can serve to distract the student of the main point.

Hi James:
From the learners standpoint, clarity and usefulness seem to be the most important aspects when viewing slides. I belive the concurrent discussion or lecture that accompanies slide presentations are most helpful, allowing the instructor to elaborate, to explain, or engage students in discussion about the topic failitates learning better than attepting to put the needed information in slides.

Staying below 5 points per slide is fine. One has an unlimited amount of slides and the trick is to put enough points on the slide (even if it is just one ) that keeps it simple but as clear as possible.

Hi Rachel:
Yup. It's a great tool when used appropriately. For me that would mean short bites of information that can induce dialog and discussion, and perhaps promote independent thought. Also, I thinl it's best when used with other media simultaneously, like the whiteboard, flipchart, text exercises, group study, or even skill practice interespersed with PPT slides that take the skill or group of skills to the next level. Variety with PPT is best.

Whenever I assign a PowerPoint project for my students, I show them a sample presentation that has only four to six bullets per slide. Some instructors prefer 4x4 method, but sometimes a little lenience is okay. I use PowerPoint occasionally because I know so many other instructors use it almost daily. I think it's a great tool.

I use about 4-6 points per slide but try to keep it brief in each point, using abbreviated words. This lets the student do the same with adding the maximum amount of knowledge for that point. Then I always throw in a funny slide or two to give them a break from processing the info about every 4th slide.
