Power Point

My students really appreciate the Power Point presentations! They seem to get a better understanding of the chapter that way.

Great ideas on using powerpoint in class. I too use it. I also periodically have "calls to action" on the slides which I make them get up and go do something, in a group, whatever. Sometimes I put video in it. It keeps them engaged more.

Hi Christopher:
I don't think anybody really enjoys just having someone read slides. As you imply, bullet points that lead to more elaborate discussion work well, along with other resources such as the white board, flip chart, class discussion, and perhaps, examples or exercises from the textbook.

Hi Marilyn:
Keeping the interest, attenbtion, and focus of students for a concentrated hour can be a chhallenge. It sounds like you';re using great resourxes to make the sessions more interesting!

I end up using it more to help keep me on track and make sure I hit all the major areas I need to. I hate power point as a word for word reading.

In the online instructional setting I also find that the power point is appreciated. However we have the use of a white board and are able to take virtual field trips via video clips from the internet. These tools add interest and variety to an hour long chat.
