use different methods
to be effective instructors need to use different meyhods of learning.
Hi Michael,
Using a movie analogy, why are some movies so popular for large adiences, and others flop? It's that culmination of factors that reaches many by utilizing a variety of methods to catch and keep the attention of students. If we can capture attention, the remainder will be easier for us since we quite familiar with the subject matter. But we've got to get and keep that attention for true successfulness.

I too present in different ways so the learning styles of the different students can be addressed. Both visual, verabl and semantic approachs are all in my presentations.
Hi Jim:
Good idea! I know quite a few teachers who use this. One disadvantage is the glare that is reflected , especially for the center of the room folks. Also, having students go to the white board for identifying, labeling, etc. keeps the energy level higher and students more engaged.
There is a special "paint" that can be applied to a whole wall to facilitate repeated writing and erasing. No glare, and it invites "write on me". Just a thought for teachers that write on PPT slides a lot.

I use the power point which is displayed on the white board. While the slide is displayed on the white board I will write key concepts that the students need to know for the hands on labs and final exam.In addition when the slide is on the white board I will pass around key components they need to identify to be successful in understanding and completing lab assignments.
Hi Karen:
Very good! I am a firm believer in the importance of having a variety of different activities available for a given topic. One benefit is providing enough material to engage students and stimulate them in different ways that we're bound to reach most students. Another benefit is if we have more than enough activities we can change if needed should students seem to be losing interest or struggling to stay focused.

Hi James:
Wonderful! This is a class that will learn as the result of varied activities that support the daily objectives and student learning outcomes.

Hi Mitchell:
Keeping students intested is valuable, and is a key to full engagement. I think when a student can relate personally to the discussion, they're more likely to retain that information.

Boy, I have almost lost a class or two, before I understood that Lecture was not their best friend. (Although it may be mine..) By changing the method (media) I've been able to generate interest, and response from students whom I thought were at death's doorstep...and had FUN at the same time.
This is very important as students retention is best remembered by active participation. I choose to use power points, group activites, and 4 member discussion panels,
I build into every lesson a variety of lerning styles. Students will See items on the board or power point, Hear me discuss them and review how to perform the task. Say the tasks as they do them and Actually Perorm the tasks. This helps all learning styles learn the new skill.
Everyone learns in different ways. In our industry we are a very hands on environment. Some students are tactile, some are visual and some are benefitting from the online world that many classes are now conducted in. We as instructors need to utilize different delivery methods in order to best suit the learning styles of our students
i believe that keeping with the same method of learning- draws the students into boredom, changing the method a couple of times adds tot he excitement.
