Power point
Textbook formatted power points can be brief, it is important to elaborate on each slide.
Vallorie ,
Any resource that helps student learn is valuable, some more so than others. Good PPT slides convey ideas and information the student can use. I've found not all publisher supplied PPT slides are really that dynamic, and I've chosen to creat my own for most of the topics I teach. Publisher supplied image libraries are one great souce for doing that. I also scan document dfrom other sources, and then imbed them in my slides.

I think the power points that are provided by the text do a great service. If these are printed out and handed to students as part of a handout situation, then they already have the main points, and can then add their own notes as I am talking/lecturing.
Amy,
PPT is a dynamic instructional tool, but good instructors recognize that it is only a tool, with a specific purpose. The biggest downfall with PPT is putting too much information on one slide, too many distracting animations or colors, and formatting irregularities. PPt should not be the focus, but merely the tool that provides the focus.

I haven't used power points in a long time but I think I will start again with my next class.
Mary Beth,
I rarely use publisher supplied PPT slides, as they tend to be mere outlines of the chapter, and not very interesting. I rather create my own slides, using my own (or the publisher) images and illustrations. In this way, I can customize my lectures and top0ics to fit my PPT slides the way I want.
