Power Point
Power point presentations bring new and interesting ways to display information.
Julia,
I only use PPT's if that's the best way to convey information. Just because PPT is available should not require every lesson and lecture to use it. We want to keep things as interesting as possible.

We were given standard PPTs for classes, but they are incredibly boring and have far too much text on them. Due to our company's desire for standardization (which I completely understand), we are discouraged from significantly modifying the PPTs. Plus there is the time involved in creating new PPTs. So I don't use them except for review before an exam.
Wayne,
One caution to PPT slides, especially those that are custom-created, is to avoid having the slides become the focus of attention rather than the information they are trying to provide. In the end, students will only care about the information they need to help their understanding.

No more than 5 points per slide. Make it colorful, attention getting, but not distracting. Add sound and animation to make them more interesting but don't over do it.
Kristin,
PPT is useful, for sure. I try to think about what is the best way to convey the information I need to give my students. I'll use PPT if that is the absolute best way, but I'll also choose other delivery methods over PPT. I think students get bombarded with PPT slides in their classes. So for me, I'll use this tool if it's the best tool, but also use other tools (and not just automatically use PPT).
