We all need to use the methods that we are most comfortable with. We need to choose methods that compliment our personalities. I like to think of myself as having a multifaceted personality that can adapt to new methods, but I don't think all of my students would agree. I sometimes get stuck in a routine so I need to branch out.

Leon,
Great! It's hard not to connecty with a passionate, enthusiastic instructor at the helm!

Thomas,
Great! We all have a personality, good or bad. As instructors we need to be a role model for our students, along with providing the best degree of instruction possible - all the time. Different personalities can manefest different ways. But I believe all have the capability of being approachable, patient, kind and caring, having a good sense of humor, and a willigness to listen. These simple traits can carry the credibility of an instructor far, and create trust among the students. Who would not not want an instructor like that?

I am a retired professional business person and I try to use my background and personality in the classroom. I am always organized for class, always on time, and dressed professionally. The students know what to expect in my class and know that I will be prepared to instruct the class.

Melissa,
Being genuine is a personal trait that most people are attracted to. It is far better to be an authenic version of ourselves than to fake a version of someone we're not. We all have uniqunesses that can emphasized in the classroom, and if we convey those attributes that convey we're patient, approachable, and care about our students, they're apt to pick up on that and in return, offer respect and trust.

Hello,

The personality is one of the most important aspects in any career in which you are leading. I find that if I simply relax around my students and shake every one of their hands on the first day of class; my natural personality comes out effortlessly. If you try too hard to be funny or be in character all of the time, the students will think you are faking a personality. I act goofy and crack jokes about myself to show my human side. And they often know I like to have a "battle of the wit’s" which they enjoy. However, when it's time to be on point, they know exactly when I make the transition because I now have their attention. The one that were nodding off actually become alert because they know their missing something.
:)

Deanna,
All instructors should exhibit certain traits that contribute to student success. Ther are many, but include being approachable, patient, flexible, sense of humor, and be willing to listen. If instructors convey they care, all kinds of different personality types may be present but students will respond appropriately.

I think that role of the instructor's personality in the delivery selection is very important because the student's take note to it and it is or can be the bearing on how the class will be. Whether or not, the student's will listen and be attentive or start chaos in the class. I know from my experience that I come out from the get go on the delivery of my personality so that know where I stand and where they stand and they respond very well to it. I haven't had any problems as of yet.

Gisele,
Super. I think students are attracted to passion in the instructional process. The class environment that's created is usually upbeat and positive, and people like top be in that kind of setting. Sounds like you are well suited for teaching.

I have a vibrant personality that draws students interest to my instructing. The way I present material relates to how I feel about my profession, very passionate, in tune and current.

Sheila,
Students are motivated in classes where their teacher produces creative methods to the instructional process. They will view their teacher with respect when they see effort has gone into the planning for the lessons, and when delivered in an upbeat mode, with a seasoining of humor, that just make class more interesting.

Douglas,
Sounds good. A sense of humor that students can appreciate often does lessen the impact of "let's get down to business". Leraning is serious, but there's no reason it can't be fun too.

I teach LVN nursing courses in a post-secondary, adult-education private school. As part of my delivery method, I do want to demonstrate(role- model) required attributes such as organized, prepared, knowledgeable, and professional, of course. However, I believe injecting the naturally creative & humorous side of my personality (where appropiate) is, also, an EQUALLY important part of my delivery method.

I think in my case it plays a big part. I'm basically a very laid back person blessed with a good sense of humor.

On those days when I'm concerned about the material I'm supplied to work with I find myself relying more on my humor and personality to keep things from becoming tense.

The students seem to relax and then it's easier to move on into more productive learning.

Sherri ,
Very true. Students minds can process information many times faster than an instructor can speak or present material. As you say, to keep interest, we have to be interesting, or atr least porepare material so that our deliivery is interesting where bu8sy minds stay on track with the lesson material. Personalizing material, and topics related to the career being trained for are two surefire ways to keep interest.

Our role as an instructor our personality in our delivery selection is very important because this is what is going to get our students engaged and involved or totally bore them and have their minds wandering and doing something else. Once you loose their interest it is extremely hard to get it back. Not only will you loose their interest but possibly even their respect for you as an instructor.

Irina,
Right, these are important. These are earned by an attentive instructor who the students feel their teacher is working to see them succeed.

Barry Westling

And also mutual trust and respect are very important.

Irina,
Each instructor comes with their unique personality. There are a gazillion variations, but in my opinion, as long as the instructor is approachable, fair, knowledgeable, patient, and set to be willing to help all students, these traits will make their classes effective.
