Hi James:
Comfortable and confident is great! We all have a unique personality that will be expressed a certain way based on who we are. In the end, we need to convey our capabilities to our students - as you've stated.

Regards, Barry

Hi Dennis:
Yes, and as a new bunch of students begin, we can also take the culmulative experiences of past classes and use what we know will specifically reach the new group.

Regards, Barry

Hi Darren:
Do you find it easy to balance the "fun" while keeping control of the learning environment? For example, some students may feel free to be vulgar or start telling off color jokes - something that may be offensive to other students.

Regards, Barry

Hi Sheena:
Very true - more fun equals easier learning. Food for thought - balance. Too much of any personality style may prove distracting.

Regards, Barry

personality has a very important role in your classsroom. It sets the tone, the pace, and eventually the outcome of the class. Students pick up on the personality and can emmulate or totally go against.

When I match my personality to content delivery, I am more comfortable and confident. I believe this shows through to the students.

Hi John:
Something important to consier is the idea of balance with this concept. We don't want to be too much of anything. Too friendly may result in a loss of control of the learning environment. To strict, just the same.

Regards, Barry

Hi Amanda:
This is probably the most important concept for newer instructors to consider. It often times gets lost in the hustle and bustle of just trying to get through material in an informative way.

Regards, Barry

As with changing personalities of different classes different students delivery selections should be well balanced with your personality and offer the best class experience and learning environment. Not having more than one personality
some challenges have presented them selves needing shift on the fly lending to changing the delivery method or modifing delivery method to achieve success.

Hi Margaret:
I agree. There's something about stories that students like. Usually they make class more interesting and needed information can be subltely inserted into the stories.

Regards, Barry

Students particularly like stories from work experiences. Must tell at least one per day. helps with retention too.

Hi Laurel:
Our personality can definitely make a difference. Nothing beats enthusiasm, energy, passion, and ecitement in conveying our interest in teaching this class today. That upbeat approach is contagious and I think can bring the otherwise dull mood up a notch or two just by our gusto. But it has to be natural and sincere. Students want authenticity. So we have to be real or students may get turned off.

Regards, Barry

Hi Larry:
We all have a personality that has some attributes that can be used to teach classes with effectiveness. Using our best traits with sicerity, along with preparedness can provide ample opportunity to conduct classes with success and metting the student learning outcomes.

Yes, also since I am teaching design and visual effects. I feel that words alone are not enough and when I lecture with no visuals it's harder to keep the students engaged.

My approach mixes humor and enthusiasm. Occasionally, I need to reign in the humor when I feel that it is interfering with the message. With math, humor and making sure students feel they can ask questions seems to be a winning combination.

Hi Margaret:
I, too, prefer to create my own PPT slides as it helps me customize the slides to fit my order and sequencing of lesson material. I may use textbook images such as charts, graphs, diagrams, photos, or drawings, and occasionally, text if it's especially meaningful.

It's important that slides supplement the teacher, and not become the lesson itself. If that were the case, we could just print the slides and hand them out.

Regards, Barry

I have trouble following the prepared PowerPoint presentations that accompany the text books. As suggested in this lesson, I spend time modifying the PPTs to fit the daily objectives. the entire PPT is available to students if they choose to look at it. Although I know the material, the scripted versions need a lot of colorful stories and spontaneous diagrams drawn on the board to maximize the learning experience.

Hi Laurel:
Most people rely on the visual sense as it is retained in our memory differently then other methods of learning. Your natural propensity for visual examples and exercises can only assist your students as you are in your comfort zone when teaching this way.

Regards, Barry

I must be confortable with the media. This entails working with the technology before giving a lecture. I am very visual and prefer to teach using as many visual examples as possible.

Hi Henry:
Definitely! Classes that are fun and interesting help students focus, remain attentive, and participate in class. We are all different, bu if are sincere and authentic, we can be creative and make most any class come alive!
