Power points in teaching
Power points can work very well in teaching how ever I think we really need to look over our power points in our curriculums and make notes for examples of what has been listed. Thise of us that have been in the field that we are teaching in will be the best examples. Susch as something that happened to us personally that made the issue better or not.
Bravo for you, Rachael! Some of the worst ppt that I have seen are produced by book publishers.... far too wordy, repetitive, etc. Modifying and editing (or, indeed, completely re-creating) to fit one's style and focus is the right thing to do!
Rachael,
Great. Your individual perspective and pertinent information you want to share will demonstrate your creativity, and probably provide enhanced learning experiences for your students.

I have decided to make my own powerpoint for lecture becasue I feel that the text book's is long boring and repetitive. Also, if it is my own I am able to do the lecture the way I want it.. not the book. Teach my skills to the students.
Corean,
Terrific idea. Should help keep attention and facilitate the points you're trying to make.

Barry, I use power-points sometimes as an visual to carry my point in teaching on or to give a case of the story I am telling so that the students can better grasp the subject matter.
Deborah ,
Sometimes students can be PPTed to death! One good real life story can teach as much as an hour of PPT slides.
