Plan B
I always try to have a back up plan.
I agree, flexibility is the key to everything.
I agree. This is especially neccessary in Culinary when product is either missing, out of season, spoiled, stolen etc. This is when Plan B is implemented and a teachable moment is created.
I am an instructor in a mechanical field. I was a mechanic long before I became an instructor. One joke among mechanics if that the best mechanic is the one who never runs out of plans. If plan A does not work go to plan B or C or Z if necessary. I guess that works for instructors also.
I agree, flexibility is necessary when teaching. Our students and the class is going to vary all the time. There are times when one lecture can take 15 minutes, but the next time, that same lecture will take 45 minutes.
Some classes will grasp the material quickly and other times, I will repeat myself several times and express the material in different ways to ensure the students grasp the concept.
Without a plan B, there is no way to seemlessly move through your lecture and meet the needs of each individual class.
Plan B is a must because no two classes of students are a like some retain knowlage faster than outhers.
Flexibility is necessary especially when dealing with technology.
I could not teach without a Plan B. Preparation for instruction is essential, and at the same time, flexibility in teaching requires a Plan B to be successful.
