Short topics

In my accounting class students like to learn one thing and then get it down so that we can build on it in the future.

Clifton,
Yes, and also helps the attention span. Most adults have an effective attention span of about 20 minutes. The information I want students to remember is put up front (previewing also helps).

I BELIEVE THAT SHORT OR SHORTER SUBJECTS LEAD THE STUDENT TO BE MORE RELAXED & IN THIS MODE THEY ARE MORE WILLIING TO ACTUALLY EXPRESS MORE OF THEIR KNOWLEDGE THAN IN AN ASSIGNMENT WHICH THEY VIEW AS SOMETHING WHICH REQUIRES "1,000 WORDS MINIMUM" IN ORDER TO OBTAIN A GREAT SCORE.

Hi Robb,
Good. Even longer topics can be broken into smaller, more "digestable" components. Breaking up the class with different activities and and keeps the students focused. Back-up plans can be used to fill irregular time frames or when deemed useful given a certain class dynamic.

I really like short topics for the fact that I can break down more complicated subjects for my students across more time. This usually leads to one of two things, either students get bored or they really like feeling like they master each and every aspect of the topic. Plan B's are so important. Although I don't have much time to get prepared for my classes I am ALWAYS going to star having at least a plan B!
