Assignment too dificult for students

When the instructor see the class is not understanding the task you are teaching, is that possible we break down the task to make then understand the class?

Hi Yuliya:
That sounds like an excellent way of addressing this potential issue. This makes for a good discussion topic, especially for newer instructors who may not yet have the strongest perspective on how difficult to make an examination.

I focus on my students' ability to complete the assigned work. I set realistic demands on exams and use problem scenarios so students can apply their skills and knowledge.

Hi Denise:

One answer to this problem might be using group work.

Group work can also be a great way for “less apt” students to gain a different perspective from a classmate instead of just hearing everything from the instructor day after day. This different perspective may be just what that student needs to gain a more robust understanding of the material.

I have a very small class of 3 people. None of the three understand basic math and they do not do their homework. I have tried different ways of teaching the material but it doesn't seem to be sinking in. Any other ideas that I could try?

Providing an example that relates to the task being taught will also give another perspective of the material you are teaching. I have incorporated real work experiences into my teaching so my students can relate to the reason for the task. Then I reiterate the lesson and have them feedback.

Many times you have to do just that. you often have to approach the material from a different angle. in an orderly manner, you can also get other class members that understand the material involved in the learning process of other class members.
