students that are restless
To mix things up and to get an idea of how the class is learning the new material, I will have them play a game which each team gets to ask each other team one question. They use the book to find questions and enjoy challenging one another
YES! I also find that this "Quiz off" method is fun and exciting for most students. They are totally engaged with the material content, and everyone likes a good competition.
I do not have a lot of experience, however, we have 4 hrs for a class. If I notice students getting restless, as a instructor you have to be innovative and creative so I will put them into small groups and go to plan B. Sometimes I will give them a early break and do something fun for awhile and engage them into a activity that they have to engage in, and come back to the lecture later. In addition, I give them resource time to help them prepare for class.
This is what I do also, have them to play a game. divide the class into two groups and have them come to line up and play family fude... This wake the students up and get them more exciting about learning. I have a bell at the front of the class and have them come up two at a time to see who can answer the question first. They love it and it help to prepare for test.
