Hi Gregory:
Exactly - and you can also see what information the student already knows.

Hi Lorraine:

Pretesting can help you get a handle on the learning types of your students and assess their knowledge in any given subject. They then can give you insight into how you may have to change up your lesson plans to accomodate the students in order to help them achieve their goals.
Hi Shawn:
These toolscan be a great way to measure what kind of student learner you have, making lesson planning more effective.

Pretesting allows you to find out what level each of the students in the class are at so that you, as an instructor, can tailor your class to meet the needs of all of the students.
It helps to know where your students are in their level of training. Using pretests will help develop lesson plans.
I like this idea becaus I teach massage therapy. Most students are infatuated with the glamour part of the industry but when they realize how much anatomy & physiology , muscles etc and modalities they need to learn most of them end up dropping the course.

It gioves me a baseline of the knowledge of the students and tips me to who takes a test well and who does not.
Hello,
I agree about the possibility of stress. But I think that if they know that the pre-test is not graded, and that we use it to learn about our learners, they see that we are taking a little extra effort to know our students. We meet them where they are, and focus on their needs. I think this will set a good atmosphere and a nice spirit for learning.
I use pretests for two main purposes: the first is for me, I use the results of the test to see if I'm getting the points across and second to see where the students stands. I also believe it gives the students a level comfort to let them know if they are on track.
Pretests are valuable tools. They inform about the knowledge level of the students in the class. Pretests answer the question, Does the class have the necessary prerequisites for the class? Once this is determined you can tailor your lesson plans to the needs of your students.
Pretest are good tools. They help teachers asses where the students are. We can then plan what skills we need to teach.Pretest also help to determine where each students skills are. It would allow for a more individualized approach to education.
A pretest will allow the instructor to determine the educational background of the student who enters the course, as long as the pretest content is designed to measure the appropriate course level. This will give the instructor a starting point.
Hi Mark:
As you have indicated, pre-tests are a great way to help you prepare efficient study plans, and get an idea of where your student stands in their current knowledge of the topic at hand.

it helps to structure your lessons and let's you know how much detail needs to be given.
In order to see growth of a student, you first need to see where they are that. It also helps when planning your lessons so that you pace the material according to where students are at.
Hi Gerald:
And, another good thing that can come from using these tools is that it gives you an idea of what kind of learner you have, making lesson planning more effective.

Hi Kurt:
Exactly - and it can also reveal what kind of student learner you have, making lesson planning more effective.

Hi Nicole:
Exactly! Two components are considered by using these tools. What information is already known (or, a strength), and also what type of learner the student is, which can help with making lesson plans more effective.
