It allows the instructor to see what areas are student strong and weak points on course content. This could be a very helpful tool and study guide for students.

it is essentially an evaluation process or any interview...it allows us to focus on the problem areas that our students may have.-

Hi Halina:
That feedback is valuable, as it can fortell where needed emp[hasis should be applied in in agiven course.

Hi Jeannette:
Because of that diversity, p[retesting ought to be ideal for formulatting your curriculum and placing more emphasis where most student's will benefit.

Hi Sandra:
Good pretests can be viewed as a fun experience by the student (especially if they know there is no grade involved). It helps the teacher refine or focus where more emphasis in the course may be placed too.

Hi Gearld:
Good purpose. Helpds you know what to emphasize.

Pretesting lets me know if i need to demo a certain repair job or i can let the students start on the job themselves.By this method I do not hold back a student or overwhelm them and students stay engaged.

I use pretests a lot in my classes. A pretest is a super tool, not only for me to assess what I need to focus in teaching the class, but also for each individual student to have as a personal assessment. I make them fun in order to keep everyone interested and excited about wanting to learn.

A pretest lets me know how much my students know. After the pretest, I like to have a feedback session to get their views of the pretest. It opens up a chance for them to voice their concerns if they have any.

My classes have a wide range of diversity, age and socioeconomic status. A pretest will let me know if they have any foundation in the course material I am going to go over or if I need to start from scratch. Every group has been different.

Without a pretest, the instructor is assuming the needs of the students based on the syllabus and course requirements. After a pretest, students may feel more invested in the skills being taught because they "see" the reason for the instuction.
Often in English classes, students are happpy with the way they write until they have a pretest on subject/verb agreement, parallelism, or pronoun antecedents. After the pretest, the discussion and the learning becomes relevant. If the students do well on the pretest, no need for the instruction!

Pretest will help me know the knowledge level of my students so I can challenge my advanced students and bring my inexperience up to the advanced student's level.

Pretests help me know how much my students already know about computers and the Microsoft Office. Using the pretest I know what information I need to fill in the gaps in the classroom of students I am in charge of teaching. I have students with no experience or prior knowledge of computers and I have students who know quite a lot, but by the end of the quarter all my students have gain new knowledge.

I use pretests all the time. Giving tests on "chunks" of important information enhances knowledge retention.

Pretests are very useful in content planning. In my classes it gives me an idea of where to start or what I need to refresh on before starting the planned content.

Pretesting can help to provide a baseline for where your students are. It can give you the knowledge of what kind of foundation your students have. From there, the instructor can plan lectures or assignments according to the students skills.

how often should we use pre test?

From my personal experience pre-test helped me as the instructor and the students. The pre-test allowed me to understand what the students' prior knowledge base. And for the students the pre-test allowed the students to find out what they knew and gave them a little insight to what they would have to look forward to in the course.

Hi Brandy:
Right, pretesting is really a planning tool for the instructor as much as it is an assessment of student performance.

Regards, Barry

Pretesing can allow you as an instructor to understand where you're student knowledge base is allowing you to effectively plan and present course content.
