Course delivery

I think that we need to use differents mthods for course delivery content.

Veneece,
We all enjoy and appreciate variety, including students. When creative planning provides a mixture of media, activities, and engagement, students will be given the best opportunity to apply their learning and retain the important aspects of the content being delivered.

It is important to use different methods for delivering the course contents as this will help the different learning styles of the students .Since students learn at different pace, it will help them achieve what needs to be achieved.

I agree, using different methods keeps the students engaged.

Marie,
I think the reflection peice is important. It can reinforce what students have learned, others can hear from their peers, and the instructor can interject concluding, summarizing, or clarifying comments.

I also have a four hour couse in dental hygiene. I put together a lesson plan that encompasses different stations the students rotate to after they have had lecture. This is done in small groups and peer review. At this point we are tying in the hands on portion. Then there may be a case study or additional practice on past skills. I end with a form of reflection.

Paula,
Too much for a 4-hour class? -No! Breaking up a four-hour class into segments such as you described is very reasonable, should help keep the interest of students, and sounds like it involves different learning styles to compliment each other. Even more variety could be added just to inhance what you're already doing. Adult learners want to see results and less busy work. So the variety we can add that contributes to the learning points of the lesson, the better.

Can an instructor use too many learning methods during a class session? As a nurse educator, I deliver course content in lecture format followed by a case study or group work and I may have an activity using hand held devices. Is this too much for a 4 hour class? Thanks

German,
Students like and appreciate when their instructor uses a variety of learning methods and resources in their classes. This makes class more interesting and enjoyable.
