Developing a course outline
Developing a course outline is very important. Its a guide for you and the students. If a student miss class for any reason the outline will keep them on course and allow the instructor to stay on track. My students love the outline because it's detailed and if I'm not around for questions they can refer to the outline. I also use my past outlines to improve my future outlines. Education evolves and so does my outline with new material and learning tools.
MARISSA,
Comprehensive course outlines help everyone, including the instructor. Once adopted, a thorough outlines defines the what, who where and when of activities that will occur in the class. And although the instructor should have the discretion to make changes, they are bound by what is stated as much as the students are for adhereing to it.

A course outline focusing on the main points of the syllabus is a necessity. When students are absent, they can review the course outline in order to catch up on the material that they missed. I have developed course outlines in microbiology, urinalysis, hematology, electrocardiography and clinical asepsis. My students find the outlines very helpful when reviewing for exams in these areas because my outlines are very detailed. I often advise students to use them for their registry exams.
Glenda,
For me, the course outline provides the key and necessary learning outcomes I want my students to possess at completion. It aids in developing curriculum, assignments, assessment, and course planning. I look to this as the framework for each course I teach.
