Who Is Your Audience
What is the best way to accomodate the many different learning style into a lesson with a larger class?
Flexible is the key. I always try to present the information to the students in as many ways as possible changing from day to day lesson to lesson subject to subject. This fights dis- engagement and boredom.
That is true you should know your audience and you should never be afraid to change your style of teaching .The best style of teaching is to have no style at all.
IDA,
Do you also teach the prerequisite course? If not, do you collaborate with that instructor, to ensure that the learning will properly transfer to your course?

I provide a pretest with information they have had the previous term to determine the needs of the class.
Jacqueline ,
I agree. Instructors have to somewhat serve as entertainers, therefore I generally use humor, pop culture references and interesting analogies in order to keep the students engaged.

I agree, its important for the instructor to be flexible with their delivery of content and projects. I look for cues when lecturing to ensure that that they are following along. Asking relevant questions and having them participate helps. They really are your audience so you have to engage and keep the lectures lively. I use humor whenever possible.
LaShondra,
Excellent question. There are several approaches that an instructor can use, however I find that providing a pre-assessment works well in assessing the individual student levels of subject knowledge. From there, constant assessment (in the form of: activities, quizzes, homework and exams) can be used to track individual progress.

I think you have to know and understand your audience. Then you have to change up the way that you provide the information, so that each students can understand and learn from it. there shouldn't be a set teaching style that is used, when the classroom has various learning styles. We have to know how to adapt to our audience.
