lesson plans
I think lesson plans should be update on a regular base. Sometime the book does not really have anything to do with what I am teaching.
Charles,
This is an excellent method for handling supplemental course content (i.e. textbooks). Instructors have to ensure that their assessments are consistent and fairly test students only a selected measure of content. If some lecture material contradicts the textbook, the student will need to know which source is appropriate to recall when completing the assessment.

I agree that the instructor needs to know what is in the textbook. If what I say in class contridicts what is in the textbook my answer is "I can only test you on what is in the textbook. If I disagree with the textbook it is because there has been a change in the business environment since the textbook was written." Most students do not realize that a tezxtbook takes 2-3 yeas to be published and during that time many things change in the business world. I try to be current on the business environment and use the textbook as the starting point.
TONIA,
This is a great point. Instructors must thoroughly review the required text for the course, prior to developing their plans. The review cannot be just a quick "skim" through the chapters, however I feel that all chapters should be read completely, to ensure that the details coincide with the lectured material. Textbook or instructor credibility can be challenged, in situations where there is a perceivable contradiction in theory.
