The devil is in the details

Hello:

The more details you have in your lesson plan the easier it is to prep for the classroom. You can embed urls and videos into your plan and use it to work through the concepts and principles being presented.

It is critical that the objectives in the lesson plan follow the syllabus to the letter. When you bring all of this together we as insturctors have the job of delivering this to the class. How we do it is just as important as the message itself. We want to enguage the student as much as possible.

I do an overview plan for the entire term but I complete my lesson plans on a weekly basis. This helps me keep my class on track as well as adjust the lessons as needed.

Tami,

Ideally...the whole term would be my suggestion. It may seem like a daunting task, however lesson plans are just detailed versions of the topical outline/syllabus. Therefore, using the topical outline as the framework, you can begin to plan the associated details with each course section, for the term of study. With this, you will have the framework prepared for your course and will be able to make adjustments as necessary.

I must admit I struggle with developing lesson plans but I know at times I am making it harder on myself. And I just hope and pray I don't need a sub.

How far in advance do you personally prepare them(a week or two or the whole term)?

This is so crucial, you never know when you are going to be ill, pulled away or replaced. We want our students to be our main priority and we want instruction to go seamless. So the more detailed the lesson plan is, then another instructor could come in and pick up where the main instructor left off.
