Team Effort
I like the idea of having the students provide input to create an enjoyable learning and sharing time.
I agree, we must all learn to be a great team player. whether in school or at work.
I am always asking my students what new ways would keep their interest in the class. With any subject I am teaching to them. This way they know I value their opinion, and I get new ideas.
As a program director I have to agree. I often either sub or "guest lecture" in other instructor's classes. When I give them the same information as their regular teacher it validates what their regular instructor has been teaching them and shows both the student and the instructor that we are a team.
I too enjoy having students' input when creating an enjoyable learning environment. I often ask students what information and objectives that they would like to achieve as students. It also helps me to meet their needs/goals when they tell me what they expect from my course. It is a mutual conversation between instructors and students that can have a big positive outcome in student's results.
Also, along the topic of teamwork, I like to have our program director come into class/lab often. It breaks up the monotony of my voice to students. When students hear the same information from another peer source, it helps the information to resonate more so with them. When they hear the same information from another source, it helps to validate that information. This allows for a better trusting relationship between myself and the students. They can trust that the info that I give them is accurate and important to have knowledge of.
