Diane,

Excellent points! It is important that instructors use the Learning Taxonomy when developing their lesson plans, in order to make sure that the assignments are aligning correctly and that they are assigned in the appropriate order. Instructors cannot create assignments that ask for a student to apply a concept, prior to fully understanding it.

Tremayne Simpson

Developing your lesson plans requires an understanding on the part of the instructor in two areas. The first of course would be the content. The second would be the knowledge level necessary in order for students to accomplish what is expected. There is a big difference between covering material so that students achieve a Knowledge level versus Application level. When the target knowledge level is higher on Bloom's taxonomy, the instructor is required to cover topics in more detail and to develop their assessments accordingly.

John,

What are some of the ideas that you have to use the Learning Taxonomy to develop your future lesson plans and course activities?

Tremayne Simpson

Taxonomy, gives me a new area to think about.

It always reminds me of the tasks I should ask my students to perform in response to the lessons

It gives a basis for structuring the course and giving students a full understanding of a topic.

You will be sure that you will teach your students the knowledge, help them to understand it, and show them how to apply it.

Michael,

Now that you have an understanding in regards to the Learning Taxonomy, what are some ideas that you have to implement the concept into your course lesson planning?

Tremayne Simpson

I have been teaching for a while without much training as a teacher. This is giving me a language and method to reach more students, great stuff. I can write a much more organized and useful lesson plan.

Linda,

I agree with your observation. Generally, final projects and activities should be created with the expectation that students have advanced to the higher levels of the learning taxonomy. The course learning objectives should support these expectations.

Tremayne Simpson

The higher levels of Taxonomy would be used when students have had adequate instruction and practice.
Then you would test their ability to apply what they have learned to a new challenge or situation.

Janet,

Do you assign one research paper that encompasses these three skills (application, analysis and synthesis) or are these three separate papers, each focussing on a separate skill?

Tremayne Simpson

Rosamond,

What methods have you/will you use to implement the learning taxonomy into your lesson plans?

Tremayne Simpson

It helps you to assess your students level of learning and how well your lesson plans are working.

We use research papers, application, analysis, synthesis.

The value of using taxonomy to write my lesson plans will insure i'm reaching various levels of students learning.

Tina,

How have you/will implement the Learning Taxonomy principles into the structuring of your course lesson plan?

Tremayne Simpson

The value of using the learning taxonomy is that you will be able to write a lesson plan. Clarify to the students what needs to be acomplished during the process to help complete the lesson, and give a better understanding of their course objectives.

This process will help the students grasp the knowledge of what is expected of them throughout the course. Providing a good lesson plan along with the objectives and guidelines will ensure the student the confidence that the instructor is knowledgable of the subject.

Cameron,

How will implement the Learning Taxonomy theory into your course?

Tremayne Simpson

I agree with the content of this module. I teach sound engineering & my students are more prepared to enter the working world when they can understand and conceptualize why & how the equipment works in the manner that it does.
