A pretest will give you a better Idea of where your students stand.
I feel like a pretest is something that is a basic questionnaire to find out what a student knows. It wouldn't be a study guide for a test. It should be something given at the beginning of the class to measure what information you will need to teach in the class.
Pre-test are the same as study guides in my opinion adn are not a sutible decision for assessing students knowledge
