Learning Objectives and Standards
Because I teach general education courses it is very important for me to ensure the students understand what they will be taking away from my course, and why it's important for them to learn the material provided. Many don't see the value of general education courses so it's my job to show them.

I teach a class that was originally thought of as out dated by other instructors. I have been able to apply new industry standards and practices and revive a 'dead' subject. My students also see the value in taking 'dated' information into account as they move forward in their careers.

I also teach general education courses and I agree that the students usually feel that "they should not have to take them". I usually find ways to implement their majors/programs into the course, by using adaptive activities, relative lecture examples and giving them numerous opportunities to discuss their goals and career aspirations.
