Standards

Learning objectives and standards is a task in itself. Bringing someone in a world they have not lived is like learning to walk again. You have to have patience and always reach a hand out for them to hold onto.

I would also add that passing these assessments gives the students a sense of confidence that they can achieve their goals if they work hard. Work ethic and the rewards of hard work are an important lesson for students to learn.

Great comment. Passing tests whether they are daily quizes, major licensing or practical exams are crucial to a students learning outcomes. I see them as a check point to make sure that they are on par for competency and graduation. Some days take more patience than others. At the end of the day it is still up to the student to hold themselves accountable for their actions when it comes to learning. It is up to us to help as much as possible.

I agree that this requires a lot of patience for our students. But they also need to understand that a lot of our courses require them to pass a licensing test to continue in their career choice and they have to study hard to be able to pass such an exam. There are standards that have to be met.

Agreed. In studying this part of the course, I found it very challenging because my use of objectives and standards at this point falls way short of expectations. I certainly understand the standards of my profession but still have a difficult time in creating measurable objectives for my students. There was and is a lot to learn for me regarding these subjects.
