Is Blooms Taxonomy Still Relevant to Today's Adult Learners

I am not knocking Blooms taxonomy, but i often wonder if it is simply too ambitious and somewhat irrelevant for certain students.

I agree. It is giving the teacher an outline of justifying what we are teaching and why it is relavent. If We present the information thoroughly we will conver all the reasons it is important.

I agree that Bloom's taxonomy is very relevant to the adult learner within the learning context of a trade school. I teach in a program for training medical professionals, and it is important for them to:
*evaluate material
*put it into the correct context
*analyze data
*know how to apply all knowledge learned as it is comprehended.

Ruth,
Do you have a specific template that helps you follow the Blooms Taxonomy?

I think it is relevant as it helps the instructor discern and evaluate the reason for presenting certain types of information over others. I think taxonomies get be a little frustrating if we think of them as hard categories. Sometimes cognition is a type od action and vice versa.

Jason,

The content of Bloom's taxonomy, is generally geared towards the instructor. The instructor uses the information in order to design their lesson plans and implement the appropriate assignments. Therefore, the content may be irrelevant for students, because they are indirectly impacted by it, based upon the sequencing of their assignments.

Blooms Taxonomy is definite relevant for todays adult learners so they know what they need to learn and to do with what they know. Performance is especially important in todays schools and learning. Trade schools and their curriculum, where more students are going to develop a degree and a new career, need to utilize the taxonomy as their students are not the average students. As a teacher I find it easier to use the taxonomy so they have a valid understanding of what is expected of them in their classes and later in their careers.
