Siobhan,
Once your students critique the selected video, do they have an opportunity to present a summary to their classmates?
Tremayne Simpson
We use the computer to look up subjects. I find interesting information to share with the class is found on the internet. We use the Cyibery to look up subjects and more. Students are required to turn in homework via Email. And we communicate via email. We use the computer is used for overheads or slide shows and more.
I have students go on You Tube and find a video on the particular topic we are covering. I get them to watch it and critique it.
Integrating technology into my course, include the use of the web, putting assignments on student portals, allowing students to be creative with the use of the web with their projects.
Rosamond,
This is an innovative way to implement technology. In addition, the dvd can be converted to a format that will allow the students to view (on their computers) later, which will assist them with reviewing the lecture.
Tremayne Simpson
Brenda,
Instructor-created PowerPoints can be customized to meet the specific needs of their students, whereas publisher created PowerPoints, are created to be more general.
Tremayne Simpson
Brenda,
I agree. I have converted all of the assignments that I have used for my courses, into an electronic format, that can be delivered via the student portal. "Paper-based" assignments are still valid, however instructors have to adapt to the general student fascination with technology.
Tremayne Simpson
Marshall,
In this format, you have an opportunity to anticipate the questions that you will get from the students and provide them in with your explanation of the video. The result could be a great class discussion.
Tremayne Simpson
tina,
This sounds like a very innovative activity. Do you find that an entertaining activity (such as this) is more effective for student retention of information, than the explanations provided in lecture/textbook?
Tremayne Simpson
computers are one of the best ways for me. i can keep the class together and they can come up with several topics that will then fit in to the "big picture"
I use make-up dvd's when i'm teaching a hands on make-up class. It makes fun and exciting.
One of my favorites ways to integrate technology into my lessons is through the utilization of YOUTUBE. I feel that YOUTUBE is an excellence resource as credible videos can be found regarding most every topic.
I agree that making your own PowerPoints adds that equality to students' learning styles. Also, I see creating my own PowerPoints fits better with my teaching style, and is easier to have visuals that exemplify material needed to cover for meeting the course objectives. The manufactured PowerPoints sometimes are just a way to review reading material rather than covering the course objectives or lesson objectives. If I start with the big picture effect with PowerPoints, the course objectives or lesson objectives are completed with more accuracy.
My students love using computers. Computers really add the visual side of learning. Also, computers add the technology edge that most of the students are familiar with and utilize in real work environments.
That's a good idea. I'm wanting it to be interactive with me in person interacting with me on the screen.
Students, based on their learning preferences, appreciate usage of a variety of technology which facilitates their learning process and their response has been positive.
I teach A&P and I found a great free clay reciepe on the internet. I have the students make the clay using different food colorings and have them bring their clay to class. The students then make a organ such as the heart and they have to do a presentation to the class how that anatomy part works. They learn the size, texture and structure of the organ as well as the physiology.
Marshall,
This is a viable way for integrating technology. You could also use "cue cards" during the filming of the video, so that you do not have to be perceived as reading the code of conduct.
Tremayne Simpson
Cynthia ,
This is a great method for turning what is usually a classroom obstacle (cell phone use) into an effective learning experience. In addition, instructors have to be extremely creative in regards to garnering student attention, which can be accomplished by effectively integrating technology.

In many of the courses Powerpoint Presentations are used quite heavily. In addition to this, in technology training there are a few solid sites which posts videos that I use to supplement the training.
