Utilizing Internet Resources
I have used “Youtube†and other online sources for both the good information they can convey or to demonstrate to students how things “are-not†done! Students have said that they appreciate the value added information and a break from a lecture or as a means to give a visual of what we are about to discuss…
i also found vimeo to be useful and a lot more pleasant to use than youtube. i will usually download the video to show it to the class if possible. we have spotty bandwidth at my school and streaming anything off the internet during class is risky so i download and test it before class.
Since my field is technology based it is very important to get my students used to using technology like the internet. You Tube is a perfect example it has a ton of good tutorials in my field.
I also have found Vimeo.com useful (they also allow you to download the material). There are some great basic videos for medical classes. I always review the videos thoroughly before the class to make sure they are class worthy. When thorough, students said the videos really give them a clearer picture of the topic. I build the videos into my lesson plans.
I agree. I use YouTube sparingly but it's a great way to show students what is "out there". I teach mostly exercise science related classes and we have many resources demonstrating assessments or actual "in action" content.
I never thought using yutube, I would have to make sure that it dosn't send the wrong message to the students. I would have to evaluate the content of thory and techniques. In choosing the right resource I can see how youtube could be beneficial.
