Embrace Technology

I see Instructors shy away from the wonderful world of technology and it drives me crazy.

I think it helps so much with students now to integrate tech. One of the most successful ways I've done this is having them create a Tumblr account and post updates to their project. They can also share with the class in this way and I can share things with them.

As instructors we need to embrace technology. It isn't going away. The further we push it away the furhter we get behind. There are so many wondedful things to learn and bring into your classroom. Depending on what I'm teaching, I have a night when the students have to teach me something new and exciting on the computers.

I encourage students to use technology! Performance based skills are now offered on the
computer. Students are able to simulate the act of setting a patient up and completing an EKG, Or simulating drawing blood. If students take advantage of technology it will help them to master many skills, however, we must monitor to make sure they are not on a social media site!

I teach diagnostic medial ultrasound and all my students are required to do a presentation upon completion of their externship. There is much competition between the students on who can do a better power point presentation using real time diagnostic tests.

Jeffrey,

I agree and usually their anxiety is unjustified. Interestingly, I have found that peer pressure is effective with these situations. Typically, if they find that one of their colleagues has had success with technology, they will tend to give it a try as well.
