leture notes

Should lecture notes be giving to students, if it free up time, to do more hands on? why or why not?

Some of our courses have PowerPoint that we lecture off of. I don't agree with this process, I see some instructors just read through the PowerPoint and I feel its robbing them of an education.... but what can you do?

I see your point but I print out my slides of the powerpoint so the students are not spending time writing down all the details I am discussing. They can add to my notes on the handout for their study later.
This I feel also presents the material in a way I want them to see later when the go home. Some students have difficulty writing down points by them selves in way that will make sense later when they study for the tests.

LaShondra,

Personally, I avoid providing students with lecture notes. I feel that it is important for them to take individual notes during lectures, to ensure that they are engaged in the lesson. Also, it enables them to be autonomous in their learning experience.
